Our asphalt paving division works within a 200 mile radius of Portland Oregon. We pave both commercial and residential jobs ranging from small patches to large parking lots and streets. Hal's Construction has been operating in Oregon and Washington since 1973. Over these past years we have developed an efficient and extremely skilled staff that can handle any paving scenario. It has been misinterpreted over the years, that asphalt paving can only be done in the summer. This is not true. We offer year round paving services. We choose days that the weather cooperates to perform the work.
We also offer asphalt patching. We can patch the smallest pot hole to the biggest sink out. We can pave street crossings, ditch lines, and repair broken edges. Cracked and alligatored asphalt it is due to bad base or too thin of asphalt most of the time. We can saw-cut the asphalt and remove it, repair the base and patch it back. We also install asphalt curbs and water berms. Root damage is another common problem with asphalt. We can remove your existing roots and repave the damaged areas. We can also install a root barrier along your asphalt edges to prevent future damage.
Asphalt is only as good as it's base. With that in mind, we recommend at least 6" of 3/4" crushed rock base, and 2" of asphalt. This is a minimum driveway spec. It goes up from there, depending on how heavy of vehicles are traveling across your asphalt.
There are many different types of asphalt that are used for many different reasons. Asphalt mix designs range from 3/8" stones to 3/4" stones. The type of asphalt that you should use is very job dependent. The type of job being residential or commercial plays a big role in this decision. Feel free to ask one of our estimators what asphalt design would suit your job best.

The asphalt industry is already one of the leaders in recycling. Every year an estimated 75 million tons of asphalt is reused in the manufacturing of new asphalt.
In order to do more, new technologies in asphalt manufacturing have allowed the production of Warm-Mix Asphalt. This new method of asphalt manufacturing requires less heat leading to a reduction in fuel used to make the product.
A 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption has been reported in Europe making Warm-Mix Asphalt. Calculating a conservative 15 percent reduction, the U.S. would save 150 million gallons of fuel annually, and reduce the C02 emissions by an equivalent of 210,000 cars every year. Warm-Mix Asphalt has been tested at the National Center for Asphalt Technology and has performed very well for wear and rutting. Warm-Mix Asphalt is expected to perform as long, or longer than, hot mix.
